Hi, my name is Nicole Hudson-Reed.  I am the owner of Nicole’s School of Dance.  We are excited to start our 9th season in Ankeny.  Our studio focuses on building your dancer’s self-esteem and poise while teaching them to dance.  If you have any questions please call or e-mail me at nicole@nicolesschoolofdance.com.  Class space is limited and availability is first come.  Enjoy your summer! Classes Offered (Ages 3 & Up)
Ballet, Lyrical, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Tumbling, & Technique.  **Ballet is required with all dance forms.

 

Registration Fee

Annual registration fee is $ 15.00 for the first student and $ 10.00 for each additional student within a family.  Registration fee, recital fee, and September tuition is due at registration.

TUITION:  Class fees are due the 1st class of the month (there will be a $ 10.00 late fee/month charged on all past due tuition).  Tuition is broke down in 9 monthly payments due September thru May (these are equal payments).   There is one additional vacation/snow day built into our schedule.  If more than one cancellation occurs, there will be a make-up class held.

If you have more than one dancer, subtract $ 20.00 for each additional dancer.  This fee covers the rental of the auditorium, lights, backdrops, music, programs, etc…This fee is non-refundable and is due upon registration. 
There is no charge for admission at our recital.

 

Costume Fees
For every recital class you take, you will perform one dance in the spring recital.  Each class will have a costume (combo classes will have a costume for each dance style ex: Ballet/Tap=2 costumes).  Average cost is $ 60/costume.  NEW**Costume fees will be due in October. 

 

Class Policies

 

Please read all of the enclosed information.

Class Policy:  We do our best to begin and end on time.  Dancers should arrive to class no more than 5 minutes prior to start time.  Please be prompt to ensure proper warm-up.  Please pick your dancer up immediately at the end of their class.  There is no adult supervision in the waiting rooms.

 

Dress Code:
All Classes-No baggy clothing is permitted.  If needed, students may wear warm-ups at the beginning of class.  No dangling earrings, necklaces, or bracelets are permitted.  All dancers are required to wear their hair pulled back. 

Ballet: All levels must wear dancewear and tights. 
            Pre I & II:                   Pink leather ballet shoes required
            Level I & Up:              Split sole ballet shoes and foot undeez required
(Level I can wear full sole ballet shoes, if they still fit from the previous year.)

 

Tap:  All levels must wear dancewear and tights (hot shorts and jazz pants are permitted).
            Pre I – Level II:          Black Mary Jane Capezio Tap Shoe
            Level III & Up:           Black Tap Shoes

 

Jazz:   All levels must wear dance attire (leotard, hot shorts, dance top, etc.). Tights are recommended.   
All levels:                     Bloch Tan Jazz

 

Pointe:  All levels must wear a leotard and tights.
              All levels:                  Pointe Shoes
Make sure your pointe shoes are approved by an instructor prior to sewing on ribbons.

Please understand that it is very important to ensure the fit of pointe shoes.  Depending on the strength of your dancer’s foot, multiple pointe shoes may need to be purchased throughout the year.  Your instructor will send a note home if your shoes need replaced.  Broken pointe shoes can cause injury.

 

Tumbling:      All levels must wear a leotard, hot shorts are permitted.  No long pants or baggy shirts. 
                        All levels         No shoes and absolutely no jewelry

 

Level Placement:  Dancers are placed in class by age and ability.  Dancers may be moved to other classes, if their instructor feels necessary and if it is in the best interest of the dancer.  We try to keep consistency in class levels according to ability, technique, attitude, attendance, and physical readiness.  Please do not request class changes be made so that students can be with their friends. 

 

Make up classes:  If you are absent from your class, we ask that you attend a make-up class.  The schedule will be posted on our website.  Try to attend the same level as your classes.  If a class at your level is not offered, you may attend a make-up class within one level of your own.  Once recital choreography is started, you will only be allowed to attend make-up classes within your level.  If there is not another class offered, it is the dancer’s responsibility to learn what was taught.  We reserve the right to remove dancers from routines or sections of routines due to multiple absences.

 

Attendance:  Attendance is very important for the growth of each dancer.  We ask that you notify us by e-mail if your dancer is going to be absent.  Always try to take a make-up class.  Elite Classes:  If you are part of an Elite class, attendance is required.  If a dancer has more than 2 unexcused absences, at anytime through the year, they will be removed from their Elite classes.

 

Communication:  Monthly newsletters are posted the first week of each month.  These newsletters are also posted on our studio website.  If you need to contact an instructor, you may e-mail them or call the studio phone.  Please limit questions asked between classes.  Phone calls are returned during the day; please leave your daytime phone number.  

  

Studio Cancellation:  There is one make-up class built into your schedule.  If more than one of your classes is cancelled, there will be a make-up time offered.


Weather Cancellation:  Nicole’s School of Dance follows the Ankeny School district for weather closings.  If school is cancelled, dismissed early, or cancels any evening activities we will not have dance.  If school is delayed evening classes WILL be held.  The studio answering machine will be changed after 3:00 PM, if weather is questionable. 

 

Tuition and Fees:  There is an annual registration fee due at the time of registration.  Recital fee is also due at registration.  This fee covers the rental of the auditorium, lights, backdrops, music, programs, etc.

 

Tuition is due in 9 equal payments.  Your first tuition payment is due with registration.  The balance of your tuition is due October-May in 8 equal payments.  Tuition must be received by your dancer’s first class of the month.  Tuition may be placed in the studio tuition box or mailed.  Late tuition will automatically be charged a $ 10.00 late fee/month.  You may pay annually at registration if you choose.


Costumes:  Recital costume bills will be due in October.  Costumes average $ 50-60/dance. 

Payment Methods:  Payments may be made by cash, check, or money order.  Please include your child’s name in the memo area and specify what the check is for (ex: tuition, entry fees, costumes etc.); this will help us ensure that your check is properly allocated. 

 

Any check that is returned by the bank will incur a $ 25.00 NSF fee.  If this happens twice in a season, we will require that all future transactions be made by cash or money order.

 

All tuition is non-refundable.  Students enrolled will be charged on a month-to-month basis.  If you switch or drop a class, written notice must be submitted prior to the first class of the following month.  If written notice is not received prior to the first of the month, you will be charged for that month.  Recital costumes are ordered in November.  If you withdrawal from a class after November 1st, you will be responsible for the cost of the recital costume for that class--NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

Studio Rules:

    • No gum, food, or drinks are allowed in the studio.  Food/drink is only allowed in the waiting area.  Please pick up after yourself.
    • The studio reserves the right to cancel/combine class due to low enrollment.  You will be notified of any changes by phone or email.
    • Students must be 3 years old by December of the enrolling year, and they must be potty trained.
    • Tuition must be paid by the first class of each month.
    • If tuition is unpaid and payment arrangements have not been made, the student will be removed from class.
    • We do not pro-rate or refund tuition for missed classes due to illness, injury, or other conflicts. 
    • After February, any student that misses more than 3 classes may be removed from recital choreography. 
    • All accounts must be up to date before recital costumes are ordered.
    • All accounts must be paid in full by May 15th in order to participate in the Spring Recital.
    • Please do not leave young children unattended at the studio.  Siblings and friends (not in class) may not remain without an adult.  The waiting area is not supervised.
    • Students, parents, siblings, and guests are asked to behave in an orderly manner in the waiting rooms.
    • Students are expected to conduct themselves in a respectful and disciplined manner at all times.  Excessive talking, being disrespectful, or acting inappropriately may result in the student being asked to leave the class.  The studio reserves the right to dismiss a student for inappropriate behavior.

     

    Class Description

    Pre Ballet/Tap I         .
    This is a ballet and tap combination class for 3 & 4 year olds.  First year of dance class that focuses on the basics while having fun creating movement.

     

    Pre Ballet/Tap II      
    This is also a ballet and tap combination class for 4 & 5 year olds.  This is a first or second year dance class that focuses on the basics while having fun creating movement.

     

    Ballet/Tap I   
    This is a ballet and tap combination class for kindergarten, 1st, and beginning year 2nd grade dancers.  Working hard to create the core dancer with an understanding for ballet and tap technique.

     

    Kids In Motion         
    This is an intro to jazz class for kindergarten, 1st, and beginning year 2nd grade dancers.  We begin learning the technique of jazz.  This class picks up the speed. 

     

    Ballet/Tap/Jazz II
    This level is for 2nd & 3rd graders.  We work on technique in all forms of ballet, tap, & jazz to create the core dancer.  We begin to incorporate lyrical in our ballet and jazz classes. 

     

    Ballet/Tap/Jazz III
    This level is for 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders.  Depending on your previous experience.  We work on technique in all forms of ballet, tap, & jazz.  Lyrical is also brought into our ballet and jazz classes. 

     

    Int I                
    This level is for 5th, 6th, & 7th grade dancers.  Placement depends on the dancer’s readiness and knowledge of dance.    

     

    Int II              
    This level is for 6th – 8th  grade dancers.  Placement depends on the dancer’s readiness and knowledge of dance.

     

    Advanced II
    This level is for advanced dancers that have at least 6 years dance experience and who are ready to dance at an advanced level.  You must already know your fundamentals of dance.  This level mostly consists of 9th & 10th grade students. 

     

    Advanced III
    This level is for advanced dancers that have at least 6 years dance experience and are ready to dance at an advanced level.  You must already know your fundamentals of dance.   This level mostly consists of 11th & 12th grade dancers.
                 
    Pointe Levels
    All pointe classes are placed by experience and ability. 

     

    Beginning Tumbling
    1st and 2nd year tumblers with little previous experience.  Working on the basics such as: pencil rolls, tuck jumps, summersaults forward and back, straddle rolls, crab walks, bridges, etc....  This class is for the beginning tumbler.

     

    Intermediate I Tumbling     
    This class is structured for tumblers that can execute the tricks in the beginning tumbling class.  Working on alternating cartwheels, building strength in your bridge. 

     

    Intermediate II Tumbling    
    This class is structured for tumblers that can execute the tricks learned in the Intermediate I tumbling.  Working on alternating cartwheels, front and back walkovers, back extension rolls, etc…

     

    Advanced Tumbling

    This class is for tumblers that can execute the tricks learned in the Intermediate II tumbling.  This level begins working toward handsprings and aerials.

     

    Elite Tumbling          
    This class is for the power tumbler that can execute all of the tricks in Advanced Tumbling.  Must beagle to execute front and back walkovers, arabians, and front & back handsprings.  Working toward tucks and aerials. 

     

    Premier Tumbling
    Can execute all the tricks above including handsprings front and back, aerials, back tucks.  This level will be working toward front aerials and front tucks.

     

    Leaps & Turns         
    This class will solely work on the technique and execution of leaps and turns.  This class is for a dancer to take in addition to their ballet and jazz class.  There is no level placement for this class.  All dancers 4th grade and above can take this class.

     

    Elite   
    The Elite levels are an invitation class.  This class is taken in addition to other levels and is a combination class for competition dancers.  We focus on combinations in lyrical and jazz.  Placement in this class is by ability and readiness.  Attendance is mandatory.  Dancers will be excused from this class if they have more than 2 unexcused absenses.

     

    Team Classes
    Team classes are ballet/lyrical/jazz combo classes that are offered for our competition team members.  These classes are grouped by age and ability.  Not all competition dancers will be placed in a team class.  These classes will be similar to the regular levels, the purpose of this class is to keep competition groups dancing together to improve their timing and style of dancing.
